| Baptism Preparation |
The baptism of a child is a happy event. It is a time to gather family and friends to celebrate. A child of God has come into the family of Jesus; a new member has become part of the Body of Christ, the Church. Baptism requires faith, and in the case of infants, that faith must come from the parents and from the Church. Accordingly, the Church has certain expectations and requirements for parents who request baptism for their child:
--at least one parent must be a practicing Catholic --their marriage should be "in the Church," a valid Catholic marriage --the parents should be members of the parish or have permission of their pastor --Godparents must be practicing Catholics. Other baptized Christians may serve as witnesses, but not godparents. --Parents must attend a pre-baptismal class, normally held the first Thursday of each month. This class may be attended before the birth of the child.
Exceptions to these requirements can be discussed with the priest or other parish minister in the baptismal program. It is always possible to remedy whatever is lacking in order to be ready to have one's child baptized. Baptisms are normally held on two Sundays each month at 1:00 p.m. To register for Baptism, contact: Jo Ann Angers at 393-3033.
