Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Lansing at 3815 S Cedar St., Lansing, MI 48910-4501 US - Music & Liturgy

Music & Liturgy

There are several ways to serve the Liturgy of the parish. Training for individual ministries is provided annually according to the needs of the community and promoted in advance of any formational program. Scheduling assignments are done by the preference of the ministers and completed in three month segments. Contact Dave Wiseman at the Music & Liturgy Office, 393-3030 (extension 230) for more information.

Readers: Men and women aged high school and older are invited to proclaim God's Word at Mass and at other parish liturgies. Training is generally held each Fall.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: These parishioners who have received Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist and are at least 18 years of age are asked to serve in two ways--some as ministers of the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass, while others take the Eucharist (Holy Communion) to those who are sick and/or homebound. Commissioned lay ministers of Holy Communion are encouraged to do both. Training and formation is offered each fall.

Ministers of Hospitality: Greeters and ushers play a vital role in our parish liturgies--welcoming, seating people, collecting the offerings, assisting those with special needs, etc. If you would like to begin serving in this capacity, please contact Dave Wisman at 393-3030 or Steve Gauss at 882-3941, or simply see a Minister of Hospitality captain after any weekend liturgy.

Mass Servers: Boys and girls 5th grade through high school are invited to assist at the Eucharistic table. Training is conducted annually each Spring. Multiple servers within the same household may be scheduled together.

Cantors: Men and women with a musical background and leadership presence to engage the gathered assembly in song, psalm and other liturgical responses are encouraged to consider this ministry.

Instrumentalists: Men and women high school age or older who are proficient at a musical instrument are invited to enhance the liturgical celebration through their talent.

Adult Choir: This group sings seasonally throughout the Church year (Christmas, Easter, Confirmation, special celebrations). If you would like to be included on the choir mailing list, please contact the liturgy office.

Children's Choir: Traditionally, there is also a children's choir which sings at the Christmas Eve family liturgy. Invitations are publicized via the weekend bulletin and announcements.

Wedding Hosts/Hostesses: Both women and men are invited to provide service to couples preparing for their church ceremony. Please contact Dave Wiseman if you are interested in serving in such a capacity.

Wedding Rehearsal Coordinators: Our parish is now looking for adults who could conduct wedding rehearsals for parish weddings. Training and formation will be provided.

Sanctuary Care (Sacristans): Individuals or families are needed to prepare the sacristy and altar prior to weekend liturgies.

Plant Care: Individuals are needed to maintain the plants and flowers in church.

Church Cleaning: Many volunteers are needed to clean and dust the worship space. Service time is arranged to accommodate your schedule.

Worship Commission: This group meets monthly throughout the year to assess our parish liturgies and needs of the worshiping community. We are always in need of fresh hands and faces to enhance ongoing commission membership.

Art & Environment: This group meets bi-annually to assess our liturgical space and plan for the various seasons of the Church year. We are in need of creative minds to enhance our church environment!
